If a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live. These were the words of the popular social Activist and American social crusader, Martin Luther King Jnr. And in our current pursuit as a developing nation, we need to be known for something worthwhile towards the actualization of our dream egalitarian society, either individually or collectively.

This is the case of one individual that the searchlight of PHD Center shimmered on as our choice for the December 2022 Personality of the Month recognition. It is the usual practice of PHD Center to celebrate individuals whose work represents or promotes her objectives and by implication contributing values and development to the people and communities. To this end, PHD Center wishes to confer the honour of the Personality of the Month of December 2021 on Mr. Idowu Afuye.

Idowu Afuye was born in Ode-Ekiti, Ayekire Local Government Area of Ekiti State. He had his elementary and secondary education in at St. Mary’s Primary School and Ode-Ekiti High School, Ode-Ekiti respectively. Idowu had his Diploma in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of Ado-Ekiti. His love for mastery in public administration and governance led him to the Administrative National Institute of Democratic Study, Abuja where he bagged a Masters Degree honours in Parliamentary Administration.

Mr. Idowu is the current coordinator for the Ekiti South Development Agenda, a non-partisan body advocating for someone from Ekiti South Senatorial District extraction to become the Governor of the State in 2022.

Ekiti State was created from the old Ondo State in 1996 with a military decree under General Sanni Abacha. Ekiti had Chief Niyi Adebayo as her first democratically elected Governor from May 29, 1999 to 2003. Mr Ayodele Fayose was Governor in 2003 and left few months to the expiration of his term but came back as Governor again between 2014 and 2018. Engr Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi (the current Governor of the State) contested against each other in 2007. Engr Segun Oni was declared winner and Dr Kayode Fayemi won his mandate back from the Appeal Court judgement. He lost his 2nd term bid to Mr. Ayo Fayose for his own 2nd term. Dr. Fayemi defeated Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka in 2018 for his return as 2nd term Governor.

The above records show that the past and present Governors are all from the Central and North Senatorial Districts of Ekiti State.

Idowu, through the Ekiti South Development Agenda platform, is currently leading the voice of his region in advocating for an end to their marginalization and open the political space for equitable, fair and an all inclusive opportunity for all qualified, credible and competent Ekiti sons and daughters to aspire and occupy the governorship seat of Ekiti state without any Senatorial district being sidelined; in this case, the organization is committed to ensuring the South Senatorial district that is yet to produce a Governor since the inception of democracy in the State is not unfairly denied the opportunity come 2022.

Another interesting part of Mr Afuye’s advocay is his resolute commitment to be a voice of peace and this he has not hesitated to show loudly anytime an occasion demands him to lend his voice to peace.

He has 13 years working experience both in the public and private sector at the Ekiti State House of Assembly and as the Managing Director of Noblesad Farm Ltd in his country home of Ode-Ekiti, showing his love for the development of the grassroot.

Mr. Afuye is happily married to a beautiful damsel and a definition of motherhood and their marriage is blessed with 3 wonderful children.

Dear Peace Community and the entire global community of human race, we present to you our PERSONALITY OF THE MONTH MONTH OF DECEMBER 2021; Mr. IDOWU AFUYE.
